• AFI-Rentals – Health & Safety

  • Acting safely and responsibly is an integral element of our culture at AFI Rentals. We continually improve our processes to deliver a safe working environment. Our people are our greatest asset, and we make substantial investments in developing and training them. We recommend that all your operators are fully trained in the safe and effective use of powered access equipment when hiring MEWPs.

AFI Rentals provide high quality powered access machine hire and sales, industry-accredited MEWP training and health & safety courses providing training for more than 30,000 people each year to ensure that anyone working at height is doing it at the safest, most professional way.

AFI are committed to improving health and safety standards in the industry through sharing best practice and learning. Working at Height training is available through UTN Training to IPAF or CITB standards, at convenient locations throughout the country. Our Familiarisation and Emergency Lowering are aimed at operators and other ground personnel, taking them through the Familiarisation procedures that need to take place before operating the MEWP, and the Emergency Lowering procedure should they need to use it.

We offer a wide range of safety equipment and are always pleased to assist our customers with any information and help they may need.

Key areas for consideration when using mobile elevating work platforms (commonly known as MEWPs) or access platforms can be found below:

  • Make sure to consider all risks in advance and carefully choose the right equipment for the job. To avoid accidents always complete a full risk assessment method statement and emergency rescue plan. Whether you are an employer, employee or self-employed. The regulations apply to everyone.

A key factor to MEWP operator accidents is a lack of familiarisation about the machine they are operating and the ground personnel’s lack of knowledge of emergency procedures.

BIM (Building Information Modelling or Building Information Model) technology digitally constructs an accurate virtual model of a project. This model can be used for planning, design, construction, and operation of the facility. These models help architects, engineers, and construction companies visualize their project in a simulated environment which, in turn, enables them to identify potential design, construction, or operational issues.

Please find some guidance regarding the selection, management and use of MEWPs. One should consider before selecting a MEWP to gain access to work at height and the risks that need to be assessed and managed while the MEWP is in use.
