The Key Zone keypad from AFI provides a cost
effective method of preventing unauthorised use
of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).
Key Zone provides the following benefits:
- Key Zone locks and unlocks a MEWP’s
upper control functions and is available as a
pre-fitted option on all machines in AFI’s rental
fleet.
- While traditional keypads only have four digits,
Key Zone can take eight digit password
codes, allowing for 100 million possible
combinations. Operators do not have to share
codes because the unit can be set up to take
individual codes for up to 200 MEWP
operators.
- The Key Zone keypads are slim and secure
and use Piezo technology, so there are no
moving parts.
- Manufactured to the highest standards
for internal or external use, Key Zone has a
hardwearing, waterproof keypad, is vandal
and tamper resistant and has an auto lock
time out facility.
- Anodised graphics provide wear resistance
and long-life operation.
- Key Zone operates over a wide temperature
range (-40° F to +250° F) and is weather
resistant to IP68 protection, which is the
highest certification available.
KEY ZONE SUBJECTED TO EXTENSIVE FIELD TRIALS
To ensure the highest quality of the product
and its operation, AFI carried out field trials
for Key Zone over a number of months with
four different customers.
One of the companies which took part, MGS
Electrical Installations, said: “It was very easy
to use and we never had any problems with
it. It was good to know that no one could use
our machine when we were not around and
it would always be where we left it. The other
benefit is never finding your machine’s battery
was flat because someone else had been
using it.”
During the trials, AFI issued an eight digit
contract number as the main security code
each time a machine went out on hire.
This made each master code unique to the
new hirer and easy to remember for the
AFI depot, should the customer forget the
code and have to phone in for a reminder.
The problem with the traditional four digit
keypads on machines is that for ease of
remembering, people either give all their
machines the same code or use the machine
type or fleet number as a code. This practice
negates any benefit of fitting a security system
in the first place, once the code is known.
Unauthorised use or theft of MEWPs is an
increasing problem – Key Zone offers a
cost-effective and easy to use solution to this
problem.
